ArtReach Continues Mission
ArtReachLate last year ArtWalk introduced ArtReach, ArtWalk’s art education program for elementary schools. ArtReach’s mission is to bring visual art programs into schools in the region, with our pilot program recently completed at Garfield Elementary School in the North Park area. Our next program is scheduled for this month at Loma Portal Elementary School in Point Loma. Patti Fox, ArtWalk artist, and Judy Berman-Silbert, ArtWalk Publications Manager, will again work with almost 400 students on collaborative art projects that, once completed, will be displayed throughout the school.

Art in the schools is not a luxury, but a necessity... and this program is designed to serve the many schools that are under-served in this area. The program brings visual art, collaboration and communication activities into schools throughout San Diego County.

Marketplace Partner of the Month: The Pecoff Gallery
The Pecoff Gallery is a new member of the Little Italy art scene. Specializing in fine art and children’s books, the Pecoff Gallery is a venue for the voice and vision of artist Grant Pecoff and writer Layne Pecoff. Opened in April 2007, the gallery is a space of inspiration and possibility filled with color and creativity. Designed with moveable walls so that the fluidity of the art is mirrored in the venue itself, the art of Grant and words of Layne are constantly evolving and the gallery serves as a space to share their explorations into the imagination and creativity with San Diego. The Pecoff’s chose Little Italy for their new gallery as the community has always supported the arts, from the creative vibe of the boutiques to a family environment in the restaurants that are the landmark of Little Italy. Recently chosen to participate in the Children’s Schools Great Artists Series, the gallery will be the focus of a school field trip where the students will create a class project replicating a Pecoff painting. Grant says “the most meaningful awards and recognition I have received are the countless responses from people expressing how my paintings made them feel happy and uplift their hearts. I can think of no greater reward then that”.

April 2007 KidsWalk Presenting Sponsor:
New Hope Charitable Foundation

New HopeEvery person should graduate with a dream in their mind/heart/soul that they believe in and have the confident hope of achieving through their own efforts and choices.

When we make this a part of our schools' purpose and goals and apply our own efforts to achieve this, we will see the desired results that have previously eluded us.

Imagine schools involved in helping every student to create and develop their own dreams and vision so that when they each graduate they will take with them their dreams and vision and be able to develop and modify them throughout their entire lives with the absolute conviction that they have the capacity to achieve whichever parts of their dreams and vision they choose.
