The paintings of Stephanie Clair marry emotion, cubes and color. She gleans her inspiration from happy, dreamy moments – a first love, a memory, lovers sipping wine, the joy of sweet music – those moments that lodge in our memories, but that we take for granted. Clair captures a snapshot of these moments on canvas. Each painting evokes a feeling; each feeling tells a story. The eyes in her paintings draw you in and help you connect.  “Eyes,” says Clair, “truly are the window to one’s soul.”

Clair’s work delicately blends color, technique, imagination and cubism. The result? Mystery and emotion. She challenges the eyes and minds of her viewers and invites them into a three-dimensional world of people, passion and beauty. Influences on her work include Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Modigliani and Kandinsky -- hence the bright colors, dreamy people, and cubist perspectives.

Raised in upstate New York, Clair drew her way through those cold winter days, and, after high school, she moved to Virginia where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting/Design at Old Dominion University. Having had enough cold to last a lifetime, Clair now happily calls sunny San Diego home.
